In 1976, an asphalt and aggregate producer founded Production Engineered Products, Inc (PEP) to manufacture screens and conveyors for its aggregate division. Originally, PEP built harp-deck screens in their search for a better way to remove fines. However, in 1981 PEP revolutionized the material processing industry with the introduction of the Vari-Vibe® high frequency screen.
PEP's evolution of the Vari-Vibe high frequency screen occurred with the realization that fines can be consistently removed with a high frequency not amplitude. A few years later, PEP incorporated this technology into the Duo-Vibe® dual frequency screen, which combines a scalper top deck with a high frequency bottom deck. This addition to the high frequency family allowed producers to remove fines from coarser feed material, thus increasing opportunities in which fines could be removed in material processing to both pre-screening and post-screening applications.
In January of 1997, PEP became a link in the Astec Industries "Rock to Road" family of companies. Astec's acquisition of PEP has allowed the company to continue investing into more screening solutions provided to the material processing industry. This is evident by the incorporation of the high frequency screen into several portable and stationary configurations provided to the market. Over the years, PEP has broadened its product offering beyond high frequency screens to include several mobile screening plants, which offer the conventional harp-deck screen.
Astec Mobile Screens creation, PEP and a sister company, Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI), combined each of their respective mobile screening plant product offerings into one company, Astec Mobile Screens, Inc. beginning May 1st, 2004. The PEP brand of high frequency screens will continue to be marketed and incorporated into the Astec Mobile Screens family of products. This new venture will create a division focused on marketing, developing and supporting mobile screening plants manufactured within the Astec Industries Corporation.
Today Astec Mobile Screens provides the material processing industry with the broadest range of screening solutions for the quarry, recycle, sand & gravel, coal, landfill and other material processing industries. The applications our screening plants face vary, but they all share the same innovative technology. This innovation allows Astec Mobile Screens to offer a screening plant that helps our customers perform better, safer and achieve maximum return on their investment.
